News Report
The West Cornwall Table Tennis
League, sponsored by Ignition Credit plc, saw a depleted Docks B
side visit an in form Palace B. Steve Lobb, having an impressive
season so far, went down to Steve Hunt from a two end lead, also
losing to Roger Jacobs. This encounter ended 7-3 to Palace.
Shaun Cuffin, deputising for Martin Rule defeated Alan Brooks
and Tim Bowler of St Austell A, helping Docks A to a 9-1 win.
Bridge A kept the pressure on with a 9-1 victory over St Austell
B, Danny Mitchelmore gaining the solitary point by beating Paul
Jenkin.
In Division One Anthony Solway's 2
wins helped Harris Mill defeat Bridge D 7-3, Ben Rolfe gaining 2
wins and Ryan Reed 1 for Bridge. The youngest player in the
Division, 11 year old Nick Peters of Docks F gave evidence of
his improvement when playing against Palace D, losing to the
experienced Colin Flook 11-5 in the 5th end, and subsequently to
John Parks 11-8, also in the 5th end.
In Division Two the local derby
between Mylor A and Docks G ended 6-4 to Mylor, veteran Alan
Brobson with 3 wins and young Nat Heuston with 2 doing the
damage. Mark Snowdon gained 2 for the Docks. Docks also
entertained Forest Green B, where the visitors Harry Stanbury
took his 3 singles. Docks took the match 6-4 however, the only
other win for Green coming from Kieran Westlake. Penpol stepped
up the pace to remain top of the table with a 9-1 win over St
Ives C, Josh Francis gaining the point for St Ives, defeating
Ian Wraith. Josh also ran Andrew Nicholson close over 4 games.
Division Three saw Saracens B make
the trip to Palace G and come away with an 8-2 win, Kieran Jack
taking 3, supported by Harry Chenoweth and Lochryn Vandervelde
with 2 wins each. Young Yanik Hopfenzitz stepped in for the F
side to visit Mounts Bay B and gained 3 valuable wins, Fred
Ingram and Chris Buckingham also taking 3 each in a 10-0 win.
Another team to gain the maximum 10 were Saracens A when playing
Cape Cornwall. This helped strengthen Saracens position at the
top of the table and just past the half way mark in the season
with a 16 point lead and a game in hand, Saracens must surely
already have an eye on the Division 3 title.
